PROSES STUDENTIFIKASI STATE-LED DI DESA BALUN IJUK, KABUPATEN BANGKA
Abstract
The development of a national-scale university in Balun Ijuk Village has concentrated student activity around the area since 2006. This study aims to explain the phenomenon of studentification in the case of the new development center. The methodology used is descriptive qualitative, supported by document review and secondary data. The analytical technique used is content analysis and data collection techniques through semi-open interviews. The results show that Balun Ijuk Village has experienced two waves of studentification. The first wave was triggered by policy interventions and road access development projects, resulting in state-led studentification. The second wave was marked by a surge in the number of students living around the campus and the acceleration of Purpose-built Student Accommodation (PBSA) housing development. In the last year, the third wave has begun, marked by the emergence of private investors with economic motives in controlling land. The studentification process has been ongoing for more than 20 years in Balun Ijuk. It's important to highlight the government's significant role in the early years, the surge in repeat student enrollment, and the influx of accommodation investors into the area. Furthermore, uncontrolled studentification could threaten the indigenous community of Balun Ijuk Village in the future.
