Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines for Communication in Food Science and Technology

Welcome to the Communication in Food Science and Technology (CFST) journal. We are committed to publishing high-quality research in the field of food science and technology. To ensure a smooth submission process and to maintain the highest standards for publication, we have prepared detailed guidelines for authors. Please read and follow these instructions carefully before submitting your manuscript. Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines may be returned for revision prior to review.

Our journal operates through an online submission system accessible via our homepage. We strongly encourage authors to submit manuscripts in English to reach a global audience and to use tools such as Grammarly or similar language-checking software to ensure clarity and correctness of the language. Additionally, we recommend using reference management tools like Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote to organize and format citations and references accurately.

Before Submission

1. Getting Started

To submit a manuscript, authors must first create an account on our journal’s online submission system. Follow these steps to get started:

  • Visit the journal homepage at https://journal.itera.ac.id/index.php/cfst/.
  • Click on the “Register” button to create a new account. Fill in the required details, including your name, affiliation, and a valid email address.
  • Once registered, log in using your credentials to access the submission portal.
  • If you already have an account, simply log in and navigate to the “New Submission” section.

Note: Ensure that the email address provided is active, as all correspondence, including submission confirmations and review updates, will be sent to this address.

2. Preparing Your Manuscript

Before submitting, ensure that your manuscript is complete and formatted according to our journal’s standards. Below are the key requirements for preparation:

  • Manuscript Content: Your manuscript must include all required sections: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, and Conclusion. Ensure that figures and tables are embedded within the text or provided as separate files with clear legends.
  • Word Count and Length: The manuscript should contain a minimum of 2,000 words and should not exceed 10 pages (A4 size), including figures, tables, and references.
  • File Format: Submit your manuscript as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx). Ensure that the file is readable and free of formatting errors.
  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English to facilitate the review process and reach a wider audience. We strongly recommend using language editing tools like Grammarly to polish your writing and eliminate grammatical or stylistic errors.
  • Template: Format your manuscript strictly according to the official CFST template available at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QEXfT7WNZlTUGAduQ7JqANy7Fm_MpYdy/edit?rtpof=true. This includes line number, font type, size, spacing, margins, and heading styles as specified in the template.
  • References: Use a minimum of 15 references, with at least 80% of them published within the last 10 years to ensure the relevance and currency of your research. Format references in IEEE style. We highly recommend using reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote to organize and format your citations and bibliography accurately.
  • Figures and Tables: Ensure that figures and tables are of high resolution and clearly legible (at leas 300 DPI). If they are difficult to read, they may also be challenging for editors and reviewers to assess, potentially delaying the review process.
  • Co-Author Details: Include the full names, affiliations, and email addresses of all co-authors during submission. This is crucial to keep all co-authors informed about the peer review process and outcomes.

Suggestions for Authors:

  • Use a reference manager (e.g., Zotero or Mendeley) to avoid citation errors and ensure compliance with IEEE style.
  • Conduct a thorough literature review to include the most recent studies (less than 10 years old) relevant to your research.
  • Proofread your manuscript multiple times or use professional editing services to enhance clarity and coherence.
  • Save a copy of your original manuscript for reference in case of technical issues during submission.

3. Submission Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors must confirm compliance with the following items. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will be returned for revision:

  1. I confirm that this submission is my original work.
  2. I declare that this manuscript is free from plagiarism.
  3. I confirm that there are no potential conflicts of interest related to this submission.
  4. I declare that this manuscript has not been previously published in any other scientific publication and is not under review elsewhere.
  5. The manuscript contains at least 2,000 words and does not exceed 10 pages (A4 size), including figures and tables.
  6. The manuscript is written and formatted in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) following the journal’s template.
  7. At least 80% of the references (minimum 15 sources) are from publications within the last 10 years.

4. Blinded Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to CFST undergo a double-blind peer review process, where the identities of both the authors and reviewers are concealed. To facilitate this:

  • Remove any identifying information (e.g., author names, affiliations) from the manuscript file.
  • Submit a separate title page with author details as a supplementary file during the submission process.

Submission Process

1. Submitting Your Manuscript

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically via our online submission system. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account on the journal homepage at https://journal.itera.ac.id/index.php/cfst/.
  2. Click on “New Submission” and follow the step-by-step instructions provided on-screen.
  3. Upload your manuscript file(s). You may upload a single file containing text, figures, and tables, or separate files for each component.
  4. Provide manuscript details, including title, abstract, keywords, and co-author information.
  5. Confirm compliance with the submission checklist and upload any supplementary files (e.g., title page for blinded review).
  6. Click “Submit” to complete the process.

Note: The online submission system allows for rapid distribution of manuscripts, speeding up the review process. Authors can track the status of their submission at any time by logging into the system.

2. Suspension of Submission

If you are unable to complete the submission in one session, you can save your progress by suspending the process before clicking “Submit.” The manuscript will be saved under “Unsubmitted Manuscripts” in your account. To resume, click “Continue Submission” at a later time.

3. Email Confirmation

After submission, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your manuscript. If you do not receive this confirmation within 24 hours, please:

  • Verify the email address entered in the system.
  • Check your spam or junk folder.
  • Contact our editorial office if the issue persists, as it may be due to spam filtering software on your email server.

4. Manuscript Status

You can monitor the status of your manuscript at any time by logging into the submission system. The journal will also notify you via email once a decision has been made regarding your manuscript.

5. File Size Limitation

Please note that our online submission system currently has a file size limit of 5 MB per upload. If your manuscript or supplementary files exceed this limit, consider compressing images or splitting files into smaller parts.

Peer Review Process

All submissions to CFST are subject to a rigorous double-blind peer review process. Manuscripts are evaluated by at least two experts in the field. Reviewers access the manuscript and provide feedback through the online system, and their comments are made available to the Editor-in-Chief immediately upon completion. Authors will be notified of the review outcome via email, which may include acceptance, minor/major revisions, or rejection.

Submission of Revised Manuscripts

If your manuscript is conditionally accepted pending revisions, you must upload the revised version within 2 weeks of receiving the notification. To submit a revision:

  1. Log in to the submission system.
  2. Locate your manuscript under “Manuscripts with Decisions.”
  3. Click on “Submit a Revision” and upload the revised files.
  4. Ensure that old files are deleted and replaced with updated versions.
  5. Submit your revised manuscript as a Microsoft Word file (.doc/.docx), separate from the title page.

Note: Clearly address all reviewer comments in a response letter uploaded as a supplementary file during revision submission.

After Acceptance

1. Proof Corrections

Upon acceptance, your manuscript will be forwarded to the Production Editor for final processing. The corresponding author will receive an email with a link to download the proof as a PDF file. Please:

  • Review the proof carefully for any errors or discrepancies.
  • Return corrections promptly to avoid delays in publication.
  • Note that the author is responsible for all statements in the manuscript, including changes made during copyediting.

2. Online Publication

Once published online, articles are considered final and complete. They have undergone full review, revision, and editing, and the author’s corrections have been incorporated. No further changes can be made after online publication. Each article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for permanent identification and citation.

3. Page Charges

Submission and publication in CFST are free of charge. There are no fees for authors at any stage of the process.

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses provided during submission will be used exclusively for the purposes of this journal. They will not be shared with any other party or used for purposes beyond the editorial and publication process.
