AUTHOR’S GUIDELINES

PHARMATERA JOURNAL

  1. INTRODUCTION 

Pharmatera Journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access publication issued triannually by the Pharmacy Study Program, Sumatera Institute of Technology. The journal welcomes original research and review articles in the fields of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Submissions are accepted in both Indonesian or English.

  1. TYPES OF PAPERS

The Editor-in-Chief and one Editor Pharmatera Journal, will review manuscripts submitted to Pharmatera Journal. However, the editor-in-chief reserves the right to reject the manuscript if the manuscript is out of scope or does not meet the minimum acceptance criteria for Pharmatera Journal publication.

 

2.1. Original research 

Original research is a comprehensive report on significant and original experimental and/or theoretical results that are in accordance with the scope of Pharmatera Journal. This article consists of an abstract in English (maximum 250 words), introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgements, author contributions, and references. Pharmatera Journal publishes research articles in the multidisciplinary field of pharmaceutical science. Authors are asked to write their manuscripts in a clear and concise manner.

2.2. Review articles

Review articles are comprehensive concise reviews of broad-based topics of general interest to pharmaceutical scientists. Review articles consist of an abstract in English (maximum 250 words), introduction, conclusion, author contributions and references.

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1. Editor’s Responsibilities

The editor is responsible for deciding which manuscripts to publish. The editor may confer with editorial board members and reviewers in making this decision. The editor may reject a manuscript without additional opinion if the manuscript is deemed inappropriate for the subject/format of pharmatera journal and is of poor quality. 

The editor must choose reviewers who have appropriate expertise and conduct good judgment. the editor will submit the manuscript to 2 reviewers. The editor must correct errors in the manuscript before publication and if after publication there are corrections, then all correction / withdrawal information must be clearly published. 

3.2. Reviewer’s Responsibilities

Reviewers should contribute to the decision-making process and help to objectively improve the quality of published manuscripts.

The reviewer submits the evaluation of the manuscript within the agreed time.

Reviewers should consider the quality and significance of the experimental work and theoretical work, the completeness of the description of methods, materials, and the logical basis of interpretation of results. 

The review should include constructive suggestions for revision of the manuscript. reviewers should provide thoughtful comments. 

Reviewers should be aware of potential conflicts of interest and inform the editor of such, if necessary withdrawing services for the manuscript.

3.3. Author’s Responsibilities

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must ensure that all authors are included in the author list, the author order is agreed upon by all authors, and all authors are aware that the manuscript has been submitted.

Authors are responsible for all aspects of the manuscript, where changes or extensive rewrites are not the responsibility of the editor. 

Each author included in the list of authors is required to declare their respective contributions to the article. 

the author must respond to all comments/evaluations and changes suggested by the reviewers must be made. If there is anything that the author disagrees with the suggested changes, the reasons must be supported by data and stated. the editor may refuse to publish a manuscript from an author who persistently ignores the comments of the reviewers.

Changes, deletions or rearrangements of author names can only be made before the manuscript is accepted and only if approved by the pharmatera journal editor.

If the manuscript has been accepted, the author is responsible for the accuracy of all content, the names of contributing authors and spelled correctly, as well as current addresses and affiliations. The accepted manuscript will be proofread only to check only for typesetting, editing, completeness and correctness of text, tables and figures. significant changes to the manuscript are considered at this stage unless authorized by the editor. 

3.3.1. Reporting Standards and Data Access and Retention

Authors are required to maintain accurate records of all data associated with their submitted manuscript. They must ensure the availability of this data and grant access to it, subject to their consent or that of relevant parties, when requested.

3.3.2. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that all content in the submitted manuscript is original and that all citations accurately reference the correct sources. Each manuscript will undergo a plagiarism check and must pass initial screening using the Turnitin software.

For the use or citation of content produced from other sources, authors must obtain documented approval from the copyright holders. To verify the originality of manuscripts submitted to the Pharmatera Journal, authors are required to include a Turnitin report (…%).

3.3.3. Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication

 

Authors must confirm and declare that the submitted manuscript is not currently under consideration or accepted for publication by another publisher. Additionally,  if the manuscript is accepted, it will not be published by any other publisher.

 

  1. MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

The Pharmatera Journal employs an online article management system for tracking and reviewing submissions. Manuscripts for the Pharmatera Journal must be submitted online through the journal's website at journal.itera.ac.id. It is recommended that the submitting author be the corresponding author, who will be responsible for the manuscript throughout the submission and review process.

The corresponding author is recommended to use an institutional email address for submission and ensure that all co-authors are listed in the authorship list, agree on the order of authorship, and approve the manuscript submission.

Authors are required to submit manuscripts that adhere to the guidelines and template provided by the Pharmatera Journal.

  1. MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Authors must use the manuscript template provided by the Pharmatera Journal, which can be accessed at journal.itera.ac.id. Adherence to the template will help prevent delays or rejection of the manuscript.

5.1. TITLE

The title is crucial for current awareness and information retrieval systems. The manuscript title should be written using Times New Roman, capital letters, with a font size of 14pt, bold, and centered.

5.2. AUTHOR NAMES AND AFFILIATIONS

The authors' full names should be written, using Times New Roman,, with a font size of 11pt, bold, and centered.

The authors must include their affiliation and address below their names. The affiliation and address should be aligned with the superscript number following the author's name. The affiliation and address should be written in the following order: study program/department, faculty, university, city, and country.

The affiliation and address should be written in Times New Roman font, with a font size of 10pt, and italicized.

The corresponding author's email address should be listed in Times New Roman font, with a font size of 10pt, italicized, and marked with a superscript asterisk, corresponding to the asterisk superscript next to the corresponding author's name.

 

5.3. ABSTRACT

The abstract must briefly state the background, research objectives, research methods, results, and conclusions in one paragraph, within 250 words. The abstract should not contain any references. The abstract should be written in two languages, Indonesian and English, using Times New Roman font, size 11pt, with the English version italicized.

5.4. KEY WORDS

The abstract must be accompanied by 3 to 5 keywords, listed in alphabetical order. 

5.5. INTRODUCTION

The introduction should be written in either Indonesian or English, following these formatting guidelines: Times New Roman font, size 11pt, single column, single spacing, A4 paper size, with the left, top, right, and bottom margins set to 25mm, 22mm, 22mm, and 22mm, respectively. All foreign terms should be italicized. The number of paragraphs is not limited, and the introduction must include several elements: background of the problem, research objectives, state of the art, and the uniqueness of the research compared to other studies. Relevant theoretical foundations directly related to the content of the article may also be included.

5.6. MATERIALS AND METHODS

The research methods section includes: research design, research materials, research equipment, research stages, and data analysis. The content of each subsection can be adjusted according to the scope of the research. The equipment and materials listed should include the type/specification and brand. Common laboratory tools, such as glassware, do not need to include type/specification and brand. If a drug is used, the generic name, dosage, and route of administration must be specified. Subheadings in this section should be in bold, with the first letter of each word capitalized. Sub-subsections should be written in regular font (not bold).

5.7. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS 

The results and discussion should be combined in the manuscript and presented concisely. Tables and figures must be consistently formatted and included within the manuscript.

5.8. CONCLUSIONS 

The conclusion should be written in one paragraph and without citations.

5.9. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Authors may express their gratitude to individuals, organizations, or agencies that have provided significant assistance or funding during the research process.

5.10. AUTHORSHIP STATEMENT

 

5.11. CONFLICT OF INTEREST STATEMENT

 

Authors are to disclose any conflict of interests covering but not limited to financial, non-financial, professional or personal aspects.

 

5.12. FUNDING SOURCE

Information on financial funding source(s) shall be provided if any.

 

5.13. INFORMED CONSENT STATEMENT

All manuscripts should declare linearity with the contents of the informed consent statement.

 

5.14. ETHICS OF HUMAN AND ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION

 

Any papers on experiments involving humans should include a statement from the Ethical Committee responsible and that informed consent has been given from subjects.

As for experiments with animals, authors need to follow the local regulations, and actions should be taken to avoid unnecessary suffering of these animals.

 

5.15. REFERENCES

References should be written in the prescribed format. Each referenced article should be written and arranged alphabetically, following the IEEE citation style. The citation formats for types such as books, proceedings, patents, theses/dissertations, and textbooks can be seen in the examples below. Use single spacing for writing the reference list.

5.16. TABLES

Tables should be centered within the paper's margins. There must be a minimum of one line space between the table and the text before and after it. The table number and title should be placed above the table. Each table should be numbered. The table title should be written in lowercase, except for the first letter of the first word, which should be capitalized. All tables in the research report must be rewritten. Tables should only have horizontal lines, not vertical lines. For tables presenting data analysis results, the source is not included. If a table cannot fit on one page, it should continue onto the next page. The source citation is required if the table is not the author's own analysis, following IEEE citation style, with parentheses and a number. For tables with data analysis results, no source is included.

5.17. FIGURES

Figures should be centered, and there should be one line space between the figure and its caption, as well as between the caption and the text below it. The figure caption should be written in bold and centered. If the table or figure is taken from another source or is not the author's original research, the source must be cited. Figures include graphs, diagrams, sketches, maps, charts, monograms, flow diagrams, and photos. Figures should be centered within the paper's margins. There must be a minimum of one line space between the figure and the text before and after it. The figure number and title should be placed below the figure. Each figure should be numbered. The figure title should be written in lowercase, except for the first letter of the first word, which should be capitalized. The source citation is required if the figure is not the author's own analysis, following IEEE citation style, with parentheses and a number. For figures presenting data analysis results, no source is included. 

  1. SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL

Supplementary materials, such as images, tables, detailed experimental procedures, and chromatographic and spectral findings (text), can be published alongside your article to enhance it. Please submit your supplementary materials together with the article and provide brief and descriptive captions. All tables and figures in the supplementary materials must be labeled in a way that avoids confusion with those in the manuscript file.
